Due to a request for some clarification on my “Linux is the OS MMO!” post, I decided to write up an excerpt from the Geek dictionary:

• Operating System (OS): Type of software that runs directly on the computer hardware, and allows you to run your applications.
• Linux: A class of operating systems that require way to much fiddling around with to actually use.
• MMO: Massively Multiplayer Online game like Everquest or World of Warcraft (WoW).
• Grinding: Pounding the stuffing out of little digital rabbits to get marginally better in the game.
• Purple: Quality of item in an MMO that is epic or legendary. Everyone wants them, and the designers make you hang out with 40 people you don’t know for 4 hours to even have a chance of getting one. Kind of like a nerd lottery.
• Raid: A bunch of people who band together to beat up a REALLY BIG digital rabbit, in the hopes of getting a purple.
